Challenges of launching an artisan food brand from Grand Manan
Transforming a family tradition into a modern island brand
In discovery, it became clear that Arbour & Shore’s real strength was their story. The syrup maker had learned the craft as a child with his father, and the products carry the heritage of Grand Manan’s land and seascape. The core challenge wasn’t just “we need a brand and a website”. It was how to tell an honest, distinctive story about land, sea and family that would stand apart from mass-market Canadian maple syrup. We prioritised naming and brand foundations first, followed by the website, then packaging and social media. There were budget constraints and a clear deadline: the brand needed to be live in time for maple season so that customers could buy when the product was at its best.
The Results So Far

These early results have given Arbour & Shore the platform they need to approach stockists with confidence, reach customers beyond Grand Manan and plan future seasons with a clearer marketing foundation.
